Forton Bus Stop - message from County Councillor Salter

Dear all,
Today I have heard from LCC Highways that they have agreed with the ‘S278 contractor and their traffic management company’ a short term solution as follows:
‘When the buses are approaching the works and stop to pick up/drop off passengers at the current bus stop, the [traffic management] company will place the lights on all red to allow the bus service to stop to collect/drop off all passengers. The bus will then continue along the route. This will be repeated throughout the day for all services should it be required. This is an interim solution until the new bus stop is constructed. The old bus stop will then be closed and removed’
It may cause some very minimal delays for traffic but enables bus passengers to safely get on and off the bus in the usual place near School Lane. It is a very unusual solution but I am pleased that it should be possible to catch the bus again from Forton and Hollins Lane. I have been told this solution is effective immediately so I am hopeful buses are already stopping but at the very latest those who need to should be able to use the bus tomorrow.
